— Art Exhibition
Hosted by local bar Mikkeller & Friends in the Copenhagen neighborhood of Nørrebro, this CoolCool art show, entitled Graphic Forms, mainly featured work exploring the visual space between 2D and 3D material processes. Prints and mixed media collages from the Flatten series bringing folded pieces back down to the flat planes. The work from the Knits series gives dimension to woven illustrations in the form of laser cut wooden sculptures/products.

For the first CoolCool exhibition in Copenhagen, I asked my favorite local bar Mikkeller & Friends if I could host an art party in their space. As a foreigner, it was my first venture into trying to reach out to the Copenhagen art and design community. This CoolCoolCPH exhibition featured graphic drawings that I had been working on alongside my Master’s studies in spatial design at the Royal Danish Academy and how that has inspired my investigations into more depth and dimension.

In the ONS Resident Artist space of the NYC flagship store in Nolita, the Coolture show featured functional textiles pieces made from upcycled materials from ONS’s dead stock. The quilted textile pieces have hidden pockets in which one can place objects. For the event, the pieces were shown how they could be used as planters to hold clippings. A textile piece was also placed in the window display as an installation for the event. Collage pieces from the Re-Up series complement this approach of reuse. The Roundabout painting references the graphic play with grids and checkers.

On Display: Sharing of Ourselves in the Home is an inclusive and interactive experience for 120 people that was part of a collaboration with other Master’s students in the Institute of Architecture and Design at the Royal Danish Academy. Prompted with giving a “future perspective of the home,” we created an interactive experience that utilizes visitors as a material to build out a space where the walls have eyes. The concept explores how we consume media in our home and how much we share of ourselves through our phone. We put on display but also we are constantly on our personal digital displays. I played a key leadership role in driving the design process with visually organizing our ideas and synthesizing our concepts. Through a scenographic approach, I helped guide our group toward accomplishing the final installation and performance.

The CoolCool Planet Show featured art & design pieces that offered creative reflection on climate change. The exhibition focused on work from the Second Life upcycling series which features planters, tapestries, a table and a lighting piece. Hand-drawn posters invited viewers to add words to complete affirmations about the future of our environment, and how that action can prompt us to think critically about our own positivity, apathy or negativity towards the crisis.

Part of the CoolCoolNYC art event series, the Studies exhibition featured drawings where I began to question my making process as well as my view of art. The Single Gestures series shows the graphic play of using only single brush strokes. The figurative drawings depict how we physically acknowledge art - ie through head nods or head tilted arms akimbo.
